Instagram for wedding photographers: a proven strategy that brought this business 100+ wedding leads in less than a year

As a Pinterest manager for wedding photographers, I don't deny the value social media platforms such as Instagram or Facebook can bring to your business. If your goal is for your work to reach more potential clients, increase your website traffic and still be able to delegate all the work that comes with it to someone else, then Pinterest is the way to go. On the other hand, if you feel like your website doesn't convert visitors well enough on its own, you need to be prepared for a more hands-on approach.

Today, I want to talk about a brilliant Instagram strategy by Devin Robinson from Anchor & Veil. As someone with a couple of years of Instagram management experience under my belt, I must admit that this method blew me away. In the most positive way possible. It does not revolve around the algorithm, your posting frequency, or how to write descriptions. Devin's approach is simple and goes right to the core of what Instagram is meant for - being social. Not only that, due to his process, Anchor & Veil got over 100 wedding inquiries and made well over 100 K in less than a year. Here's how.

Intentionally engage with your target audience.

As a wedding photographer, you are most likely using your Instagram profile in the following ways: you post a couple of times a week, regularly publish Instagram stories, like a photo or two that shows up on your feed and reply to (most of) your comments. But how often do you reach out to someone who could be your potential client? Think about it, how many times were you the first one to start a conversation with a client that booked you through Instagram? Once or twice? Never? Usually, we are creating all this content and putting it out into the Instagram world and waiting to hear back. Waiting for someone to notice us, write us a comment or send us a DM.

Now imagine this - what would happen if you would act rather than wait? Instead of assuming that your next wedding photography client will find you on their own, reach out to them yourself. Follow them on Instagram and make sure to engage with them and be intentional when doing that. Comment under their posts, like their photos and yes, even send them a DM. As Devin says, "make sure to provide them with a ton of value and positive interactions". To make it simple, treat them as you treat your friends.

How exactly do you do that? I encourage you to check out The Anchored Podcast episode 43, where Devin talks about this more in detail and provides concrete examples of how he does it himself. Even better, if you join the Anchored Education Facebook group, you will be able to access a free mini-workshop on this specific topic and become a pro at it yourself.
