How this wedding photographer grew her website traffic by 300% using Pinterest

As a Pinterest manager, I am often facing the challenge of how best to present the value and power of Pinterest to someone who has no experience with it. In these cases, I find the numbers to be of great help. That is why I decided to create a whole blog post dedicated to this topic alone and showcase the results I've achieved together with one of my clients.

If you think about it, Pinterest is a great platform for wedding photographers. Your clients are actively using it to plan their big day and to search for both inspiration and information. Not only that, first and foremost, Pinterest is a visual platform. Your photos have the opportunity to shine and represent both you and your work the best way possible.

Even though you may have never thought of using Pinterest to promote your photography and reach potential clients, it is an amazing way to do so. I am sure that when you finish reading this blog post, you will realize just how powerful Pinterest can be and how much can it do for your business.

As I mentioned at the beginning, I'm going to use a real-case example and show you some actual numbers. This way, you'll be able to see yourself what is possible and think about how this can be relevant to your wedding photography business.

A little bit of background

For privacy purposes, let's name this wedding photographer Tara. Tara and I started working together at the beginning of 2019. After completing the on-boarding process, her regular monthly management started on February 2019. At that point, she already had a Pinterest profile created but has been only using it personally from time to time. She had pinned a few of her photos to her profile, but altogether, that resulted in a few clicks every month (up to 10).

When we started working together, she had about 3000 followers on her Instagram account and a couple hundred on her Facebook page. She had a couple of weddings booked for 2019, but her schedule was not full yet.

What were some of the first results

Same as everything else, Pinterest needs some time to take off. In the first 14 days, Pinterest brought Tara only a tiny portion of her website traffic - 16 clicks. The next month, that number already grew to 122 and 155 the month after that. Just two months in, Tara's Pinterest page with only a couple of followers was bringing her more than double the amount of traffic her Instagram account was.

How everything took off

According to the results, we tweaked our strategy and became more intentional in some aspects. I started to notice patterns and made sure to create more content similar to that which was bringing the best results. In the upcoming months, a couple of pins took off, which was reflected in the analytics too. During April, Pinterest already brought over 50 % of all social traffic to Tara's website - more than Facebook and Instagram combined.

6 months after I set up Tara's Pinterest page, the results were incredible. There were already over 700 users visiting her website from Pinterest and the numbers kept on growing. In August, she almost hit the 1000 mark (995 clicks) and finally reached that goal the next month. As I'm writing this post, it's the middle of October 2019 and Pinterest has brought Tara well over 1400 users in the last 30 days.

On top of all the numbers, there's one more info I'd like to add to this report. Tara is already fully booked for 2020. Of course, I'm not saying that Pinterest is the reason for that, she is an amazing wedding photographer after all. But, I am sure that it has helped her in some way. After all, it did bring over 5000 people to her website altogether.
