How can Pinterest support your Instagram marketing

In the blog post, I'm going into detail about how to use Pinterest in a way that will support your Instagram account. What are the differences between the two platforms and how to use them in a way that improves your marketing strategy as a wedding photographer.

As a Pinterest manager for wedding photographers, I firmly believe that you should add the platform to your marketing strategy (if you'd like to know why exactly, head over to this post and find out). By that, I don't mean to say that you should use Pinterest instead of Instagram, but alongside it. In fact, when you understand both of these platforms and how do they work, you can start using them in a way that gets them to support one another.

Before we dive in, I'd like to encourage you to read my previous blog post called "What Can Pinterest Do That Instagram Can't". It will provide you with some basic information about the difference between Pinterest and Instagram that you need to know to understand what comes next.

As you already know, Instagram is all about engagement. When a user comes across a post that they find interesting, they will probably like it and check out the profile that posted it. If they like what they see there, they will follow the account and keep engaging with their content. They will watch the stories, write a comment or two and even send a DM. So what does all of that mean for your wedding photography business? On Instagram, you have an opportunity to build a connection with your followers. They can learn more about your business and get to know you, the person behind the business, too. In the wedding industry, this can have a big effect on your success. After all, you get to be a part of a day that is very important to your client, a day that they share with people they are closest to. That's why, if they've been following you for some time now and also like you as a person, not just your work, you have a good chance to get hired.

On the other hand, on Pinterest, there is practically no one-on-one interaction between a user and a brand. If you're active on Pinterest yourself, then you know that most often, you use the platform to search. You can either search for inspiration or information. When you find what you are looking for, you usually do one of the two things: save the pin to a board or click on it. Very rarely will you comment on a pin, follow the profile that created it or even send them a message. But, even though Pinterest somewhat lacks in this area, there is one thing where it works like magic - reaching large numbers of users. So, how can that help you out?

By now, we've already established the fact that creating a connection with your followers makes a very important part of your marketing strategy as a wedding photographer. We also know that Instagram can be a great platform to do that, but Pinterest is the one that gets your work seen by new people. Now the question is, how do we connect the two so that we can take advantage of both?

There are two things you can do:

  1. You start publishing your Instagram posts to your Pinterest account: this way, whenever a user clicks on one of these pins they will land on your Instagram account which gives you a great opportunity to capture their attention and have them follow you. However, Pinterest doesn't like pins leading to their "competition" that much. From my experience, these pins get less attention from the algorithm than the ones that link to your website. Which brings us to step number two.

  2. You optimize your website in a way that is easy to navigate and has at least one clear and eye-catchy link to your Instagram account. You can either embed your Instagram feed on the page itself or encourage visitors to follow you in some other way.

Are you ready to make Pinterest your Instagram's next best friend?
